Fashion designer Yan Fong , who design this apartment according to her lifestlye “enough is perfect, less is more” as a mix of vintage mixed with modern, bohemian eco-friendly artistic lifestyle .Yan has presents her unique lifestyle with different looks of the city life. She shared her eco-friendly and vintage views on lifestyle and interior design concept. Q: Why do you think about applying “ enough is perfect “ as an interior and lifestyle concept ?
Y: It is a key concept of mine of being simple with happiness while less is always more. As a designer I need to travel frequently and I discover the simplest is the perfect harmony. Therefore. the key feature here is develop the best of the leisure time when I am by myself or with friends, that’s why I create the little warm corner instead of a big sofa, soft lighting to create pattern shadow instead of putting all the electronic stuff on the wall. I care a lot about the moment of the time but not following and receiving loads of non-relative information.
Q: What are the key designs features would you recommend?
Y : This apartment combines the sense of vintage lifestyle with a twist of modern elements like the red wood and the Chinese red, the artistic wallpaper design and home décor ,the bronze and steel also add a simplest touch to the overall look. And the whole features were achieved successfully via recycle and eco-friendly.
Feature 1 : Living Room : Vintage , Red, Simple
S: I can immediate feel Yan’s generous personality when I came in , strongly express Yan’s lifestyle as “enough is perfect” as everything are so matched and simple, not much messy stuff. Would you tell us more why you set up this little L shape corner?
Y: This is a set of a designer table décor and another seating area to create a cozy corner for gathering, it is good to collect these vintage home product like vintage handmade vase, wood pig and vintage red vase for the table décor.
S: You have created a strong style of vintage mixed with red, look at this wallpaper that you have designed, and it is your dog !
Y: Red is my fav color and vintage is my lifestyle, mixing both together express a quality of living with character in the apartment, also red is always a color to light up the general wood furniture. Yes, that’s my beloved dog and he is my inspiration of this wall print design.
S: Is it hard to collect all this vintage & antique product ?
Y: Is it is hard cause it is vintage product made by times and space. I collect most of them via my travel, and for those I can’t find, I will design and made it myself.
S: All the vintage décor express the greatest feel of this apartment! Look! The vintage lamps are fantastic. Why do you picked these lighting ? I found there are a L shape wood sleeves on top of the apartment, what is that for ?
Y: These are the vintage lights that I like, the biggest one contains the character to present the shadow of the lighting while the small one is the combination of two crystal and bronze vintage lights that I had DIY myself to achieve the perfect lighting I wished. The L shape is the wood shelf’s that I hopefully one day it will all filled with all my collection over the world!
D: I wonder why would you use Teak flooring as flooring ?
Y: With natural beauty, durability and strength, Teak has the distinction of being revered as the “royal” wood that I don’t want to get rid of. All the recycled teak wood is the highest quality and greenest floor on the market and it matched perfectly with the vintage home décor.
Feature 2 : Guest Room : Simplest , Strong design feature
S: Guests Rooms are all well décor with the same mood of vintage wood and red in it’s simplicity, and in fact, which presents a strong style as well as point of view towards life, like the red nostalgic all keep it well presented, Yan Fong the designer had presented her best inspiration via the designer mood board. What I had appreciate is not only the valuable lifestyle Yan had presented but also the way she influences the world’s beneficial by her creative mind of state.
S: You have a big designer table that looks very professional, what are the functions?
Y: as a designer we always need a huge and tidy working table to draw while this wood designer is the essential things for us, large, clean, facing the great view of the city while the place we gain all these inspiration.
Key Feature 4 : Hidden Surprise, Space for friends gathering!
S: The apartment is very clean and tidy which gives more space for friends gathering, just like this, Yan will lay the carpet on the floor so that everyone can seat together with all these cushions to create the cozy mood. There are a vintage piano to play music.
Y: This is a table and also a painting with wooden frame, when it open, it becomes a table, when it close, it save more space and nice as a painting.
Key Feature 3 : Guest Room : Kitchen an bathroom, DIY wallpaper, bedroom
Y: because i think it is against eco-friendly to trash all the kitchen deco just because there don’t fit in the style of the apartment, it is simply easy to just stick the artistic wallpaper to get the same mood and color of the general mood.
S: Are you keeping the original décor of the kitchen ? I found a wood stick on top of the mirror in the toilet, what’s that for ?
Y: The bathroom are with the same style as the kitchen by using the same technique of sticking the wallpaper onto the surface of each material like the wood, the steel, how wonderful the outcome just perfectly match with the color scheme without trashing the whole thing. That wood was collected during hiking with me and my family some days ago so home feeling.
D: The lighting of the bedroom are so relax and soft! I like the vintage Edison light bulb mixed with the bronze glass, gives an romantic feels in the old days. This painting is your drawing as well ? such an art piece ! And why the lighting from the bed are so soft?
Y: I designed a wood grain wallpaper to change the color of the lighting and make it softer with a ton of orange to make the bedroom warmer.
D: I see this is another little bedroom, is it for your dog as well ?
Y:. Yes, it is. My dog sleep in his little bedroom near by my bed, he use to wake me up every morning by stepping on this little stair.
